Golden Harvest Health Foods and Holistic Center was dedicated to "healing the body and nurturing the mind and spirit. "We believe in the body/mind/spirit connection; that each of these aspects of the self can influence or affect the others in both positive and negative ways. Therefore, while natural foods, supplements and a toxin-free home are the first steps toward healing the body, other factors such as stress reduction, are also essential to the healing of the whole self. That is why we offered a full line of natural foods and body care, as well as classes and services such as massage, Reiki, Yoga, Taichi, meditation, intuitive readings, etc. When the mind is free of anxiety and the spirit is at peace, the body can begin to heal, making for a harmonious, whole self.

Golden Harvest believes in organic and bio dynamic farming and bought from small family-owned local businesses whenever possible. We also purchased goods from local artisans and craftspeople because we believe in supporting our local community. This support is not only financial, but also helps talented people receive recognition. Buying locally not only keeps the money in the community and thereby supports the community, it also saves the environment. It takes a minimal amount of fuel to buy locally, whereas having items shipped across the country not only uses considerable fossil fuels, it also creates wear and tear on our highways.

Golden Harvest read the labels so you didn’t have to! Unlike other health food stores, (or those claiming to carry health foods), Golden Harvest did not allow MSG, (monosodium glutamate), in our store. Currently the FDA, (Food and Drug Administration), allows MSG to be listed, hidden actually, under nearly 50 different names! Either unaware of this fact or unconcerned about public welfare, other stores that stock health foods, (especially the big box stores), are often loaded with so-called "health foods" that are loaded with MSG and can actually be harmful to sensitive individuals. Even if MSG does not affect you now, it is accumulative and one day it most likely will. Golden Harvest does not carry products that contain artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, fragrances or chemicals.

Golden Harvest believed in educating the public so that they can take an active role in their own health. We not only offered classes, but we also suggested books, web sites and we handed out flyers to our customers for them to read.
